After doing this, evaluate your answers with critical thinking so you can dismiss ideas that have no basis in reality.

The second secret to becoming a genius consists of teaching yourself how to think conceptually. Everyone knows how to perceive facts; that happens almost automatically. The trick is to unite your perceptions into valid concepts and thoughts. You can do this by learning how to think conceptually.

All you really need to do is identify the essence of various things around you and unite things that have the same essence into a distinct concept. Once you build up several concepts in your mind, you can perform conceptual thinking by integrating concepts into logical thoughts. Those thoughts let you understand reality in conceptual form.

You can even go one step further by identifying the essence of your thoughts and unite similar thoughts into a principle. When you can think in principles, you will be able to understand everything in existence.

The third secret to becoming a genius consists of teaching yourself how to think creatively. It is not enough to know how to think logically. Conceptual thought lets you identify reality in abstract terms, but conceptual thought does not generate new ideas. Yet generating new ideas is the hallmark of a genius. Observe Archimedes or Galileo or Newton or Einstein: these men were able to think creatively and thus come up with new ideas and breakthroughs.

Once you know how to think conceptually, you can easily think creatively by looking at things in new and different ways. You can approach problems from unusual or unexpected perspectives to identify things that no one else has ever seen. You can cross the boundary of what is normal and known to see what else might exist. Occasionally you will hit on something new and valuable.

The key is to master the process of creative thinking so you can be creative on demand rather than waiting for chance or luck. Study and practice will enable you to become a master of creative thought so you no longer have to get stuck in dead-end ruts.

The fourth secret to becoming a genius consists of expanding your mind through learning. Once you teach yourself how to think conceptually and creatively, do not fall into the complacency trap. Continue to nourish your mind and keep it active by learning new and interesting subjects. Never stop learning and using your mind. If you study subjects that interest you, you will be rewarded with illuminating knowledge and a mind that is alive. You will be confident that you can handle any mental challenge that confronts you.

It is best to learn the basics of life first such as philosophy and language so you can think and communicate well. Then learn politics, economics, history, literature, science and other areas that interest you. Do not try to learn everything in a day or a week. Realize you can learn things across your entire life, so there is no need to rush. Just go at your own pace and you will steadily grow in knowledge and power.

The fifth secret to becoming a genius consists of exercising your mind daily. Not only will this help develop your mind; it will increase your knowledge and the number of creative breakthroughs you have. Once you get into the habit of using your mind each day, it will no longer seem like a difficult or dreadful experience. You will actually look forward to using your mind vigorously and efficaciously. You will look forward to the challenge.
